Capsule Geology

The Boot (Heel) occurrence is located south of Colledge Creek, approximately 4 kilometres west of Canswick Lake.

Regionally, the area is underlain by Lower to Middle Devonian Stone Formation argillaceous limestones and dolomites. Limestone, marble and calcareous sedimentary rocks of the Upper Silurian to Middle Devonian Dunedin Formation are exposed to the east and west.

Locally, mineralization occurs as minor disseminated sphalerite grains in a 6-centimetre wide stratiform and stratabound horizon in the limestone. Mineralization also occurs as rare galena crystals in drusy quartz-filled vugs associated with quartz veins cutting the limestone.

Work History

In 1973, Belmoral Mines Ltd. and Grandora Explorations Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping and soil sampling on the area as the Boot and Heel claims. Also at this time, Aquitane Company of Canada Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping and geochemical (silt and soil) sampling on the area as the TRI, IRA, KEY, MEG and QYR claims.
